After School Instructor

The Francophone Charter School of Oakland seeks experienced, dynamic and passionate instructors to lead enrichment activities during its afterschool program for students in Transitional Kindergarten through 3rd Grade. The program, located at the school, 9736 Lawlor Street, Oakland, runs from 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. daily and from 2:15 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesdays starting August 24, 2015.
Position is 15-20 hours a week, approximately 3:15-6:15 p.m. M-T-R-F, and 2:00-6:15 p.m. on Wednesdays. Pay is $12.25-20/hour and commensurates with experience.
This position reports to the afterschool coordinator.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise outdoor and indoor play.
  • Collaborate with after school program site coordinator and other staff to plan grade appropriate activities for your students in craft, music, athletics, etc. depending on your talents and interests!
  • Provide a fun, safe and positive environment for kids during the after-school hours.
  • We look for teachers who play actively with kids and demonstrate a genuine interest in individuals, engage little ones to play together well, and generally offer support.
  • Help students with homework as needed.
  • Communicate with teachers and parents, offer excellent customer service to families and help with setup at the beginning of the program and cleanup at the end of the day.
  • Serve afternoon snack.
  • Attend weekly check-in with afterschool staff.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as determined.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma, GED or equivalent experience.
  • Authorized to work in the United States.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Prior experience and a passion for working with young children.
  • Experience in music, art, athletics or other preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Interest in following the school’s mission and philosophy, and participating in professional development around those.
  • Fluency in French a plus.
  • Be prepared for required background checks.
  • CPR and First aid qualifications or willingness to train.
