Francophone is responsible for identifying, locating, and evaluating enrolled children with known or suspected disabilities, per IDEA (20 U.S.C. §1400 et seq.) and relevant state law. Eligibility & Admissions Priority

Francophone Charter School of Oakland admits all students who wish to attend, in accordance with Education Code §47605(d)(2)(A). Francophone is open to all California residents and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, age, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, national or ethnic origin, or achievement level. If the number of applicants exceeds capacity, enrollment (except for current students) is determined by a public random drawing. For enrollment in TK, the child must be age 4 by September 1, 2026.

Admissions preference is given, in this order, to:

  1. Children of Francophone’s founding team and founding families

  2. Siblings of current Francophone students

  3. Children of Francophone employees

  4. Children who qualify for Free or Reduced-Price Lunch and reside in Oakland

  5. Children of families in transition

  6. Children who reside in the local OUSD elementary attendance area where Francophone is located, or who attend that local elementary school if it serves 55%+ students qualifying for free/reduced-price meals

  7. Children who reside within Oakland Unified School District boundaries

  8. All other children in the State of California

Two-way immersion works best with a balanced mix of French- and non-French-speaking students. Entering TK/K students who indicate French proficiency are scheduled for a French Language Review; French speakers are eligible for 49% of slots and non-French speakers for 51%. Students entering 2nd grade and above must demonstrate grade-level French proficiency before a slot is confirmed.
