The gold standard for bilingual education — where French-proficient and non-French-proficient students learn together, strengthening both languages naturally.
At Francophone Charter School of Oakland, our two-way dual immersion model brings together students from multilingual backgrounds to learn together in both languages. This creates an authentic bilingual environment where students naturally support each other’s language development.
Students may enter Transitional Kindergarten (TK), Kindergarten (K), or 1st Grade with no previous exposure to French. Through our carefully structured immersion approach, students develop proficiency in both French and English as they progress.
Our teachers use proven approaches specifically designed to support both French and English language learners at every level.
Students learn academic content — math, science, social studies — through the target language, making language learning meaningful and contextualized rather than abstract.
Teachers adapt their teaching methods, materials, and assessments to meet the diverse needs and learning styles of all students.
Specially-Designed Academic Instruction in English makes academic content accessible to Multilingual Learner students while they develop English language proficiency.
Students may enter with no previous exposure to the French language. Students who indicate French proficiency will be scheduled for a placement assessment.
Students entering 2nd grade or higher must demonstrate grade-level French proficiency. An assessment is completed before a seat is confirmed.
No French experience required for TK, K, or 1st Grade. Come learn how our immersion model works.
